Positions to Fill

Drinking Water Engineer - Glenwood Springs

SGM is seeking a full-time, mid- to senior-level engineer to lead SGM’s drinking water-focused team in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This position requires a degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering and at least ten years of experience in drinking water quality and treatment and/or water distribution modeling. Overall responsibilities will include providing technical leadership and project management for drinking water projects, mentoring and supervising junior engineers, and fostering strong client relationships and developing new business. Preferred technical skills/experience includes raw water supply evaluations; drinking water regulations consulting; pumping and treatment system testing, evaluation and design; preparation of drawings, specifications and contract documents; construction contract administration; facility and water system master planning; and hydraulic engineering and water distribution modeling. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player and have strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of consulting engineering experience in:
    • Water / wastewater facilities design and planning projects
    • Water/wastewater operations and startup
    • Hydraulic engineering and water distribution network modeling
    • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) regulations-related consulting.
  • Current Colorado PE license in civil engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience as a lead client service / relationship manager, specifically with municipal / special district clients
    • Excellent client service skills
    • Pursued and won projects through existing client relationships, strategic business development efforts, and/or responding to project RFPs
    • Successful track record of developing new business
  • 3+ years of direct staff supervision experience
    • Demonstrated experience in managing younger staff on technical project assignments
    • Responsibility for direct employee supervision, performance management and professional development
    • Manage team workload and staffing levels
  • 5+ years of project management experience with strong performance record

Executive Assistant - Glenwood Springs

SGM is currently seeking a part-time Executive Assistant for our Glenwood Springs office, to perform duties for several company executives and operations team members:

  • Handle correspondence of a complex and/or confidential nature
  • Assist in administrative details that require initiative and judgement
  • Run errands for the operations team, shareholders and/or BOD such as picking up supplies/lunch/etc.
  • Email management and Outlook scheduling
  • Attend and take notes for company leadership and BOD meetings
  • Assist with internal projects, work groups and training – schedule meetings, help compile/organize material
  • Shareholder transaction paperwork
  • Compile reports, populate spreadsheets, memos, invoice letters, and other documents
  • File and retrieve corporate records, documents, and reports
  • Help prepare for meetings by coordinating meeting space and accommodations, (food, technology), preparing agendas, reports, etc.
  • Read and analyze incoming memos and submissions, distributing to appropriate parties as needed

Schedule/Duration

  • The tentative schedule for this position is Part-time (8-2 with an hour lunch) approximately 25 hours a week.

Electrical Design Engineer - Glenwood Springs

SGM is currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join our team. Our projects consist of a diverse mix from the municipal, commercial, industrial, and residential arenas.

Minimum qualifications for the successful candidate are:

  • Strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado
  • Current Colorado PE license (out of state PE licenses may be considered provided the candidate has the capability to acquire an in-state license within 6 months of hire)
  • Experience in electrical design of power, lighting and low voltage systems for commercial buildings
  • General understanding of the NEC, building codes and construction practices
  • Ability to lead the design of these systems with limited support from other engineers. Adeptly manage all aspects of assigned projects, including scope, budget, schedule, client expectations and internal project team performance
  • A commitment to high-performance systems and therefore experience in energy efficiency, renewable energy, industrial controls
  • Some working knowledge of AutoCAD, and basic use of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to learn and use new software
  • The candidate must be willing and able to physically maneuver around confined and otherwise difficult to access spaces
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Ability to periodically travel to projects and branch offices around western Colorado

  • Physically capable of performing typical land surveying tasks including ability to carry 50+ lbs. of survey gear through mountainous terrain

Municipal Engineer - Glenwood Springs

SGM is currently seeking a Municipal Engineering Team Leader for our Glenwood Springs office. The roles and responsibilities of a consulting municipal engineer vary depending on the type of client they are representing. Most importantly he or she must be a well-rounded engineer who has experience in most if not all aspects of municipal engineering including but not limited to:

  • land development and the application review process
  • civil engineering including drainage analysis and design, site design and grading, streetscapes, permitting, etc.
  • water and wastewater systems and potentially other utilities such as electric, stormwater and more
  • road and trail design and construction
  • capital improvement planning, budgeting, and municipal financing
  • traffic engineering
  • asset management and the maintenance and operation of facilities, parks, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Senior level experience in municipal engineering or a related engineering field, including project management experience with a strong performance record
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking and the ability to appropriately gauge the needs of the situation and adapt the communication style accordingly
  • Excellent client service skills with increasing experience as a lead client service/relationship manager, especially with municipal / special district clients
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, direct, manage, communicate, engage and oversee projects with varying degree of complexity
  • Interest in and track record of successfully developing new business
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred; must have natural leadership skills and a desire to mentor and build a team

Civil CAD Designer - Glenwood Springs

SGM seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Glenwood Springs, CO staff as a CAD Designer as part of our Civil Services Sector. The successful candidate will bring strong capabilities and experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D (C3D) design for civil engineering projects.

This position includes C3D design work for projects related to land development, traffic/transportation, drainage, utility and water/wastewater systems for private and municipal clients. Typical projects will require the generation of construction plan sets in accordance with design and drafting standards of various review agencies. Typical elements of these projects include site layout, storm drainage, roads and pathways, grading plans, concrete and asphalt hardscape design including curb, gutter and sidewalks, utility infrastructure, water, sewer and storm sewer systems, and erosion and sediment control plans.

Typical duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Prepare complete sets of civil construction drawings using C3D, including sheet setup, plans, profiles, notes and details,
  • Work with Engineers to design and layout a project using C3D upon receiving sufficient design information,
  • Manage digital files per company standards
  • Produce plans that conform to company design and drafting standards, minimizing QA/QC review time
  • Generate plans from scratch as well as handling redlines from engineers and project managers

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado
  • 5 years of progressive experience with CAD drafting and design; minimum of 3 years of C3D design experience
  • Experience with alignments, surfaces, corridors and pipe networks
  • Knowledge of earthwork calculations
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to successfully deliver projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; good communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook and Excel
