Experienced Water/Wastewater Engineer

SGM is seeking a full-time experienced Water/Wastewater Engineer for our Glenwood Springs, CO office. This position requires a degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering and preferably at least 8 years of experience in water and/or wastewater design and consulting work. The ideal candidate will help forward SGM’s mission to make its clients successful by delivering practical, innovative solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Progressive consulting engineering experience in:
    • Water / wastewater facilities design and planning projects
    • Water/wastewater operations and startup
    • Hydraulic engineering and water distribution network modeling
    • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) regulations-related consulting
  • Current Colorado PE license in civil engineering or related field
  • Strong experience as a lead client service / relationship manager, specifically with municipal / special district clients
    • Excellent client service skills
    • Pursued and won projects through existing client relationships, strategic business development efforts, and/or responding to project RFPs
    • Successful track record of developing new business
  • Direct staff supervision experience
    • Demonstrated experience in managing younger staff on technical project assignments

Water Resources Consultant

SGM is seeking an experienced Water Resources Consultant to reside in either the Grand Junction or Glenwood Springs, CO office. This Water Resources Consultant will serve as a technical leader, consult with clients on a wide variety of water resource projects and maintain ongoing client relationships in order to sustain and grow the SGM business.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consult with clients on water resource services including water supply planning and development, ground water, surface water and water quality needs
  • Work with water attorneys and state water officials and knowledge of Colorado water rights and water resource management to obtain permits and decrees for clients
  • Independently plan and conduct complex hydrology investigations
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and trust
  • Ensure client projects are running seamlessly and stay in communication with clients
  • Communicate effectively with staff and others
  • Project planning that includes water resource management, regulatory permitting, project construction, project assets management, grant applications and/or project financial planning
  • Perform project work including writing proposals, designing data collection programs, leading a project team, interpret the results of data collected, prepare a report with findings and financial management for the project
  • Complete necessary documentation including peer review of reports, memos, client correspondence and other items
  • Serve as a technical lead for field investigations, data collection and analysis
  • Aid in business development by identifying water industry consulting and engineering business opportunities, developing project pursuit strategies and expanding project backlog and client base

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in water resource consulting and management including ground water, surface water hydrology, water rights, and water quality services
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Colorado water rights and water resource management, including local, state and federal drinking water, wastewater, ground and surface water rules and regulations
  • Experience working with water attorneys and state water officials
  • Technical understanding of the principles of hydrology and ability to independently plan and conduct complex hydrology investigations
  • Excellent client service management skills including ability to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Experience ensuring all client projects are running seamlessly, staying in constant communication with clients and developing trust
  • Takes initiative to meet client needs, maintain existing business and grow business
  • Able to communicate with staff including project leadership and communication of client needs
  • Outgoing and willing to meet and interact with a wide variety of people
  • Leadership abilities and capable of serving as a technical lead on projects
  • Able to coach, mentor and lead by example

Structural Engineer

SGM is seeking a full-time experienced Structural Engineer for our Glenwood Springs, CO office. Overall responsibilities will include providing structural engineering technical leadership and project management for building projects, mentoring and supervising junior engineers, fostering strong client relationships, and developing new business. Preferred technical skills/experience include the design of commercial and residential structures; experience with other civil structures such as retaining walls, vaults, and pump stations is a plus but is not required; understanding of permitting and regulations related to structural projects; building inspection experience; and preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player and have strong communication skills.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in consulting engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with residential and commercial structures
  • 3+ years of project management experience, including coordination of multiple disciplines and sub-consultants
  • 3+ years of experience managing client relationships
  • Experience with preparing project scope, schedule, and budget for proposal and fee estimate efforts
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
  • Colorado PE license or ability to transfer a license from another State quickly
  • Solid oral and written communication skills
  • A minimum of BS degree in Structural Engineering, or Civil or Mechanical Engineering with a Structural focus – Master’s degree preferred

Municipal Engineering Team Leader

SGM is currently seeking a Municipal Engineering Team Leader for our Glenwood Springs office. The roles and responsibilities of a consulting municipal engineer vary depending on the type of client they are representing. Most importantly he or she must be a well-rounded engineer who has experience in most if not all aspects of municipal engineering including but not limited to:

  • land development and the application review process
  • civil engineering including drainage analysis and design, site design and grading, streetscapes, permitting, etc.
  • water and wastewater systems and potentially other utilities such as electric, stormwater, and more
  • road and trail design and construction
  • capital improvement planning, budgeting, and municipal financing
  • traffic engineering
  • asset management and the maintenance and operation of facilities, parks, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Senior-level experience in municipal engineering or a related engineering field, including project management experience with a strong performance record
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking and the ability to appropriately gauge the needs of the situation and adapt the communication style accordingly
  • Excellent client service skills with increasing experience as a lead client service/relationship manager, especially with municipal/special district clients
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, direct, manage, communicate, engage and oversee projects with varying degree of complexity
  • Interest in and track record of successfully developing new business
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred; must have natural leadership skills and a desire to mentor and build a team
  • Current Colorado PE license in civil engineering
  • Proficiency with and a good working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) preferred

Environmental Planner

SGM is seeking an experienced Environmental Planner to reside in either the Durango, Grand Junction or Glenwood Springs, CO office. This Environmental Planner will utilize their experience with NEPA, land use permitting, and section 404 permitting to support a variety of analysis and evaluations related to environmental review and resource permitting for recreation, energy development, infrastructure, mining, and water projects in Colorado and surrounding states.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project management
  • Environmental data collection
    • Wetland delineations, vegetation, wildlife surveys
  • Report writing, permit application development
    • 404 applications, biological evaluations/assessments, NEPA
  • Fee estimates and proposal development
  • Using field data to generate “standard/formulaic” NEPA documents/etc.
  • Using best practices of NEPA and other environmental regulations to prepare well written environmental documentation for our clients
  • Research and prepare technical reports in support of environmental documents, prepare permit applications as well as coordinate regulatory permitting issues with internal and regulatory agency staff
  • Assist and supervise less experienced teammates in the field and in the office

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning and/or science, geography, earth science, public or water policy or similar; Master’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Ability to assist with field evaluations, prepare written reports, maps, and written client communication
  • Interest in, and experience with, federal permitting (404 of Clean Water Act, BLM/USFS NEPA, section 7 consultations, local land use planning, etc).
  • Project management experience
  • Strong technical writing skills, and extensive experience preparing multidisciplinary documents.
  • Ability to work both individually and as part of a collaborative team contributing to the preparation of environmental documentation for a diverse range of projects.
  • MSHA, Safeland, and other industrial client safety training and experience preferred
  • Of note, many of our clients have strict drug and alcohol policies, and access to sites may be limited to individuals who can pass recreational drug tests.

GIS Technician

SGM is seeking an experienced GIS Technician to reside in either the Durango, Grand Junction or Glenwood Springs, CO offices.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and supports a positive, collaborative culture within the SGM
  • Creates and edits GIS data in an ESRI format.
  • Solid GIS skills, including field data management, data management, and cartography
  • Updates asset management application using ESRI data.
  • Derives data from a variety of sources including but not limited to CAD drawing files, engineering plan files, construction “as built” drawings, GPS units, imagery, terrains, and other geospatial
  • Ability to create effective and accurate maps and/or mapping applications for distribution and general operations.
  • Collect field points in all environmental conditions using GPS equipment and post processing of GPS data to import into ESRI software.
  • Maintains and updates GPS equipment and GPS software.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with SGM team and with clients.
  • Able to instruct others to use basic functions in ESRI products. Understands the basic use of GPS equipment.
  • Locate and vet public domain geospatial data as directed and in accordance with IT policy.
  • Assists with basic IT issues, including installing software, troubleshooting minor technical issues, and completing maintenance on large format printers and scanners.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with team and clients.
  • Performs other duties and special projects as requested by superior.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Urban Mapping, Planning, Natural Resources (with extensive GIS experience) or closely related field.
  • Requires three years of GIS experience
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Workable knowledge of advanced mathematics, geometry, coordinates systems, datum and projections.
  • General project management experience
  • Basic knowledge of how to improve GPS workflow and how to troubleshoot GPS software.

Survey Party Chief

Our Glenwood Springs, Colorado office is currently seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and experience in the following areas:

Position Description

Projects include boundary, easement, right of ways,  surveys, GPS RTK and Static surveys, design surveys, aerial mapping, and construction layouts.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the client, the client’s representative, and contractors
  • Supervise field survey team
  • Ensure team is properly equipped w/personal protection equipment and following safety protocol
  • Prepare field notes
  • Follow local state and federal survey regulations

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of land surveying experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Physically capable of performing typical land surveying tasks including the ability to carry 50+ lbs. of survey gear through mountainous terrain
  • Basic understanding of coordinate systems
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a crew

Survey CAD Technician

Our Glenwood office is currently seeking a full-time Survey CAD Technician to join our Survey Team. The Survey Team specializes in a variety of Surveys such as: ALTA’s, LSP’s, Topographic Surveys, Subdivision Plats, Improvement Survey Plats, Property and Easement Descriptions, and Exhibits and for both public and private sector clients.

The ideal candidate will proficiently complete or perform the following tasks:

  • Work with Project Managers & Project Surveyors completing survey a variety of survey drafting tasks to include ISP’s, subdivision plats, Topographic surveys, ALTA, boundary, ROW, control networks, and SUE deliverables
  • Job Calculation (Reviewing of field crew notes)
  • Coordinating with Crew Chiefs and Project Managers, as well as other draftsmen
  • Be passionate about providing the highest level of customer service in the industry
  • Work proactively with coworkers to maximize efficiency and project performance

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of prior survey related drafting experience
  • Detail-oriented & self-starter
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn and use new software
  • Track record of steady progression of drafting skills
