Municipal Engineering Team Leader

SGM is currently seeking a Municipal Engineering Team Leader for our Glenwood Springs office. The roles and responsibilities of a consulting municipal engineer vary depending on the type of client they are representing. Most importantly he or she must be a well-rounded engineer who has experience in most if not all aspects of municipal engineering including but not limited to:

  • Land development and the application review process
  • Civil engineering includes drainage analysis and design, site design and grading, streetscapes, permitting, etc.
  • Water and wastewater systems and potentially other utilities such as electric, stormwater, and more
  • Road and trail design and construction
  • Capital improvement planning, budgeting, and municipal financing
  • Traffic engineering
  • Asset management and the maintenance and operation of facilities, parks, etc.

Qualifications:

Bridge Structural Engineer (0-4 years)

SGM is seeking a full-time Bridge Structural Engineer for our Glenwood Springs, CO office. Our team is responsible for the design, load rating, and inspection of bridges, retaining walls, and miscellaneous structures for a variety of public and private clients on the West Slope of Colorado. The key responsibilities for this position include working and coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team, developing construction documents for structural projects, and self-managing design tasks with attention to the project scope, schedule, and budget. The successful candidate must be a fast learner who is an organized self-starter with strong attention to detail. The candidate is expected to be a team player with strong written and verbal communication skills and a strong desire to live, work and play in Western Colorado.

Qualifications:

  • 0-4 years of experience in the design and construction of concrete and steel bridges
  • EI Certification or ability to obtain in the first year of employment

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician

SGM is seeking a full-time Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician in Glenwood Springs, Colorado to join our SUE Team. The SUE Team specializes in performing existing utility investigations and utility coordination to support our engineering team and clients.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Project Managers, Surveyors, and Utility Owners to complete existing utility investigations in accordance with the ASCE 38 Standard and Colorado’s SUE law
  • Use of geophysical equipment to locate underground utilities in the field
  • Perform UNCC 811 ticket requests and utility owner records research
  • Outreach and coordination with Utility Owners for existing facility records/maps
  • Computer office tasks for pre and post-fieldwork (reports, exhibits, and plan production)
  • Provide CADD (Computer-Aided Design and Drafting) support for deliverables
  • Field oversight of Utility Test Hole (AKA potholing) Investigations
  • Occasional Travel to Job Sites throughout Western Colorado

Qualifications:

  • Prior utility, engineering, and/or construction-related experience

BIM Technician/CAD Drafter

SGM seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Glenwood Springs, CO staff as a BIM Technician/CAD Drafter our Structural-Buildings Team. This position includes design work for projects related to building structures. Typical projects will require the generation of construction plan sets in accordance with the design and drafting standards of various review agencies.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

CAD Designer

SGM is seeking a full-time highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter CAD Designer in Gunnison, Colorado. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to live, work, and play in Western Colorado. This position includes Civil 3D (C3D) work for projects related to land development, traffic/transportation, drainage, utility, and water/wastewater systems for private and municipal clients. Typical projects will require the generation of construction plan sets in accordance with the design and drafting standards of various review agencies. Typical elements of these projects include site layout, storm drainage, roads, and pathways, grading plans, concrete and asphalt hardscape design including curb, gutter, sidewalks, utility infrastructure, water, sewer, and storm sewer systems, and erosion and sediment control plans.

Primary duties and responsibilities of this position are:

  • Prepare complete sets of civil construction drawings using C3D, including sheet setup, plans, profiles, notes, and details
  • Work with Engineers to design and layout a project using C3D upon receiving sufficient design information
  • Manage digital files per company standards
  • Produce plans that conform to company design and drafting standards, minimizing QA/QC review time
  • Generate plans from scratch as well as handle redlines from engineers and project managers

Overall responsibilities will include providing structural engineering technical leadership and project management for building projects, mentoring and supervising junior engineers, fostering strong client relationships, and developing new business. Preferred technical skills/experience include the design of commercial and residential structures; experience with other civil structures such as retaining walls, vaults, and pump stations is a plus but is not required; understanding of permitting and regulations related to structural projects; building inspection experience; and preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player and have strong communication skills.

Survey Project Manager

SGM is seeking a full-time experienced Survey Project Manager to join our Survey Team in Glenwood Springs, Meeker, Durango, and/or Gunnison, Colorado office. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and experience in the following areas: boundary, easement, right of ways, topo surveys, design surveys, aerial mapping, construction layout, survey crew management, and client communication skills.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the client, the client’s representative, and contractors
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Produce competitive proposals
  • Review project budgets and invoices
  • Supervise and direct field surveyors and office drafters
  • Ensure team is properly equipped with personal protection equipment and following safety protocol
  • Manage survey projects from start to finish with minimal oversight
  • Attend meetings with project team
  • Provide QA/QC to other PLS and Project managers
  • Follow local state and federal survey regulations

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of land surveying experience
  • Strong communication skills with clients and internal staff members
  • Ability to lead field surveyors and drafters
  • Advanced understanding of coordinate systems and vertical datums

Survey CAD Technician

Our Glenwood Springs, Meeker, Durango, and/or Gunnison, Colorado office is currently seeking a full-time Survey CAD Technician to join our Survey Team. The Survey Team specializes in a variety of Surveys such as ALTA’s, LSP’s, Topographic Surveys, Subdivision Plats, Improvement Survey Plats, Property and Easement Descriptions, and Exhibits and for both public and private sector clients.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with Project Managers & Project Surveyors completing a variety of survey drafting tasks to include ISP’s, subdivision plats, Topographic surveys, ALTA, boundary, ROW, and SUE deliverables
  • Job Calculation (Reviewing of field crew notes)
  • Proficient in combining topographic surfaces – LIDAR and traditional survey surfaces with points and break lines
  • Coordinating with Crew Chiefs and Project Managers, as well as other draftsmen
  • Be passionate about providing the highest level of customer service in the industry
  • Work proactively with coworkers to maximize efficiency and project performance

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of prior survey related drafting experience
  • Detail-oriented & self-starter
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn and use new software
  • Track record of steady progression of drafting skills
  • Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a G.E.D. Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Strong desire to live, work and play in Western Colorado

Our Glenwood Springs, Meeker, Durango, and/or Gunnison, Colorado office is currently seeking a Survey Technician. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and experience in the following areas: boundary, easement, right of ways, topo surveys, GPS RTK and Static surveys, design surveys, aerial mapping, and construction layout. We will consider candidates with no direct experience if they demonstrate an interest in a long-term survey career, strong math skills, a hard work ethic, and a desire to work outdoors.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Physically capable of performing typical land surveying tasks including the ability to carry 50+ lbs. of survey gear through mountainous terrain
  • Basic understanding of coordinate systems
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a crew
  • Motivated problem solver
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team to successfully deliver projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; good communication skills
