Water/Wastewater Engineer

SGM is seeking a full-time Water/Wastewater Engineer in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This position requires a degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering and preferably a year or more of experience in water and/or wastewater design and consulting work. Subsurface Utility Engineer (SUE)

SGM is currently seeking an experienced Subsurface Utility Engineer for our Glenwood Springs, CO office.

The SUE Engineer manages all aspects of civil SUE projects, including fieldwork, deliverables, and client communication. The successful candidate has a thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures to provide SUE services and understands the requirements of Colorado’s SUE laws. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SUE team and all company-wide SUE activities. The successful candidate shall possess proven characteristics and accomplishments to effectively supervise and manage a team that will grow to be fully staffed of SUE engineers, CAD operators, and field technicians.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Apply American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 38 standard knowledge and application of the standard to Civil Engineering on assigned SUE projects, which includes a thorough understanding of land and engineering survey, geophysical equipment & methods, and utility engineering (i.e. designating and depicting Quality Level D through A on utility line segments).
  • Manage and perform project assignments within the scope, schedule, and budget of the project. These assignments will include, but are not limited to:
    • Develop utility infrastructure mapping scope in preparation for proposals and cost estimates
    • Coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies and client personnel in regard to permitting as needed for project execution, and request/review data, reports, and other material, as needed
    • Providing Utility Notification Center of Colorado (UNCC) 811 calls, and internal support with UNCC 811 needs
    • Reaching out to utility owners for existing facility maps, and interpreting the utility records research documentation
    • Coordinating the utility field investigation with internal and/or external project managers, surveyors, and/or utility locate staff.  Processing field data and providing quality assurance and quality control review of utility infrastructure mapping and report deliverables
    • Preparing mapping and engineering documents using AutoCAD and/or Microstation software platforms, and assembling project deliverable packages including SUE plans and reports
    • Reviewing invoices and preparing progress reports to clients
  • Educate and market SUE services to new clients and develop work
  • Manage company-wide SUE efforts, including:
    • Hiring, training, and managing SUE staff
    • Manage team budget, equipment needs, pricing, etc. to maintain efficiency and profitability of SUE services
    • Coordinate with project managers to define project SUE requirements, budget and schedule work, and deliverables
    • Provide internal training and client education on SUE project requirements and processes
    • Manage utility test hole, utility locate, and traffic control subcontractors, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Civil Engineering or related field, with current Colorado PE license or ability to quickly obtain Colorado PE
  • Minimum of 8 years of prior experience in delivering utility infrastructure mapping in ASCE Standard 38 highly preferred, with progressive responsibility for SUE operations and deliverables
  • Understanding of utility detection geophysical theory, application, precision, and limitations
  • Experience with utility configurations and installation practices
  • Utility infrastructure designating services of all common utility systems using the applicable geophysical equipment such as pipe and cable locators, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), magnetic gradiometer
  • Proficiency with engineering survey, data collection, and AutoCAD
  • Experience with Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) design process and utility coordination protocol
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate with all internal and external project stakeholders
  • Some in-State travel required
  • Self-starting, motivated, and positive attitude; ability to meet deadlines

SGM is currently seeking a General Civil Engineer with 8+ years of experience for our Glenwood Springs, CO office.

This position affords room for the rapid advancement of high-performing individuals eager for a challenge, including project management, personnel management, business development, and client service management opportunities.

This position requires a BS in Civil Engineering or related field with a current Colorado PE license. The successful candidate must be a well-rounded engineer who has experience in most aspects of:

  • Land development
  • Drainage analysis and design, site design and grading, streetscapes, permitting, etc.

Roadway Engineer or Designer

Our Glenwood office is currently seeking a Roadway Engineer/Designer to join our Transportation Design Team. The Transportation Design Team specializes in all types of transportation design projects, typically for public sector clients.

The ideal candidate will proficiently complete or perform the following tasks:

  • Design of streets, highways, intersections, roundabouts, shared-use trails, and all related features
  • Production of plan sheets for a typical roadway design project
  • Development of Specification and Estimate packages
  • Use of design criteria and guidelines, such as:
    • AASHTO Geometric Design of Highways and Streets
    • CDOT Design Guide
    • CDOT M & S Standards
    • Municipal or County Design Standards
  • Coordinate aspects of design with other technical staff (drainage, structural, survey, etc.)
  • Review of design and analysis performed by others

Municipal Engineering Team Leader

SGM is currently seeking a Municipal Engineering Team Leader for our Glenwood Springs office. The roles and responsibilities of a consulting municipal engineer vary depending on the type of client they are representing. Most importantly he or she must be a well-rounded engineer who has experience in most if not all aspects of municipal engineering including but not limited to:

  • land development and the application review process
  • civil engineering including drainage analysis and design, site design and grading, streetscapes, permitting, etc.
  • water and wastewater systems and potentially other utilities such as electric, stormwater, and more
  • road and trail design and construction
  • capital improvement planning, budgeting, and municipal financing
  • traffic engineering
  • asset management and the maintenance and operation of facilities, parks, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Senior-level experience in municipal engineering or a related engineering field, including project management experience with a strong performance record
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including public speaking and the ability to appropriately gauge the needs of the situation and adapt the communication style accordingly
  • Excellent client service skills with increasing experience as a lead client service/relationship manager, especially with municipal/special district clients
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, direct, manage, communicate, engage and oversee projects with varying degree of complexity
  • Interest in and track record of successfully developing new business
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred; must have natural leadership skills and a desire to mentor and build a team
  • Current Colorado PE license in civil engineering

Survey Party Chief

Our Glenwood Springs, Colorado office is currently seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills and experience in the following areas:

Position Description

Projects include boundary, easement, right of ways,  surveys, GPS RTK and Static surveys, design surveys, aerial mapping, and construction layouts.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the client, the client’s representative, and contractors
  • Supervise field survey team
  • Ensure team is properly equipped w/personal protection equipment and following safety protocol
  • Prepare field notes
  • Follow local state and federal survey regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of land surveying experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Physically capable of performing typical land surveying tasks including the ability to carry 50+ lbs. of survey gear through mountainous terrain

Survey CAD Technician

Our Glenwood office is currently seeking a full-time Survey CAD Technician to join our Survey Team. The Survey Team specializes in a variety of Surveys such as: ALTA’s, LSP’s, Topographic Surveys, Subdivision Plats, Improvement Survey Plats, Property and Easement Descriptions, and Exhibits and for both public and private sector clients.

The ideal candidate will proficiently complete or perform the following tasks:

  • Work with Project Managers & Project Surveyors completing survey a variety of survey drafting tasks to include ISP’s, subdivision plats, Topographic surveys, ALTA, boundary, ROW, control networks, and SUE deliverables.
  • Job Calculation (Reviewing of field crew notes)
  • Coordinating with Crew Chiefs and Project Managers, as well as other draftsmen
  • Be passionate about providing the highest level of customer service in the industry
  • Work proactively with coworkers to maximize efficiency and project performance

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of prior survey related drafting experience
  • Detail-oriented & self-starter

Structural Engineer

SGM is currently seeking a full-time Structural Engineer for our Grand Junction, CO office to:

Overall responsibilities will include providing structural engineering technical leadership and project management for building projects, mentoring and supervising junior engineers, fostering strong client relationships, and developing new business. Preferred technical skills/experience include the design of commercial and residential structures; experience with other civil structures such as retaining walls, vaults, and pump stations is a plus but is not required; understanding of permitting and regulations related to structural projects; building inspection experience; and preparation of drawings, specifications, and contract documents. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player and have strong communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in consulting engineering
  • 5+ years of experience with residential and commercial structures
  • 3+ years of project management experience, including coordination of multiple disciplines and sub-consultants
  • 3+ years of experience managing client relationships
  • Experience with preparing project scope, schedule, and budget for proposal and fee estimate efforts

  • Colorado PE license or ability to transfer a license from another State quickly
