SGM is providing us with something previously unavailable: a one stop shop for building energy audits, implementation plans and oversight, and preventative maintenance schedules. It's a great service that has become a key part of our energy and climate work.

e2 Team Services

The e2 Team's services include an added level of review and analysis of SGM projects to identify solutions for energy and resource efficiency in order to reduce lifecycle costs and minimize environmental impact and risk. To accomplish this, the Team offers the following services:

High Performance Building

  • Energy Assessments - Our assessments consist of a very thorough site evaluation followed by a comprehensive report listing energy solutions specific to your facility, complete with historic utility bill analysis and a cost benefit analysis for each solution. Energy Assessments typically cover HVAC systems, electrical components, lighting, plumbing fixtures, applicances and computers, as well as the building envelope.
  • Performance Maintenance Programs - This service is specifically designed to sustain energy efficiency improvements over time by prioritizing energy efficiency, premium indoor air quality and durability/longevity in everyday maintenance. The program typically includes preventative maintenance schedules, equipment logs, regular site evaluations, energy tracking and oversight of improvement proposals/projects.
  • LEED® AP services - Our Team consults on the primary environmental issues inherent in development projects such as water quality, water conservation and resource efficient building. Whether LEED® certification is pursued or not, we provice a framework to guide successful implementation of high performance building strategies.

Municipal Services

  • High Performance Building - Municipalities typically manage several buildings, often very energy-intensive buildings. With limited options to increase budgets, rising energy costs can have noticeable financial impacts. Successful energy management can significantly reduce operating expenses. Please refer to the summary above for a description of services.
  • Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems - Water and wastewater is the second most energy intensive industry in the United States. Pressure to expand capacity and maintain regulatory compliance can often take precedence over optimizing efficiency to lower costs when staff is limited. Similar in scope to our High Performance Building Services, our water and wastewater services are geared to optimize efficiency in both building and process systems. We continually monitor energy use and the energy intensity of your systems so that progress can be tracked regardless of capacity increases.
  • Clean Energy Policy Solutions - Purchasing, travel, construction management and other internal policies can have a bigger imapct on energy use than perhaps any other factor. In order to support past, or encourage future building or fleet clean energy solutions, sound policy is needed to ensure success. With extensive municipal experience as staff, elected official and consultant, we are able to truly understand how to identify and implement solutions. We have worked with many towns and cities to craft comprehensive energy action plans for both municipal and community operations.
  • Utility Bill / CO² Emissions Management - Tracking energy use is often the simplest, yet sometimes the most effective energy management strategy, if the data is evaluated properly. Our services include: comprehensive tracking of all utility bills, fuel use, wastewater, etc.; 'bill auditing' to check for billing errors, excessive use (often indicative of leaks), unit cost fluctuations, etc.; identification of additional challenges, solutions and cost avoidance opportunities; generate budget projections based on monthly/seasonal use; trend charts/graphs, YTD comparisons, and reports; periodical benchmarking to comparable facilities; CO² emissions reporting; energy use normalization for weather and billing days; 'split bills' for shared facilities; and more.
  • Renewable Energy Assessments - Renewable energy systems such as solar, hydro-electric and geo-exchange are becoming increasingly more cost-effective and therefore more attractive; however, determining the feasibility and whether or not a system represents the best "bang for the buck" is not always straight forward. Our understanding of renewable energy technology, utility interface policies and the potential funding opportunities allow our team to completely and accurately evaluate your project.

It is very likely your organization has a tremendous opportunity to reduce its utility costs by 25%-50%. Our figure speaks for itself that not integrating high performance building strategies misses a great opportunity to convert operating expenses into profit. Many solutions we identify are what we refer to as 'solution multipliers' - in addition to saving energy and money, they can also improve comfort, reduce maintenance and in some cases, prevent building deterioration.

Successful energy management requires an on-going commitment to improving the performance of a facility. Implementation of improvements, continued measurement and verification, and maintenance can be challenging as well, but SGM has the expertise and resources to assist your organization in meeting its goals. We look forward to exploring energy solutions for your project.
