Featured Drinking Water Projects

The following featured projects highlight the varied drinking water engineering and consulting services we deliver. Additional project listings and descriptions can be accessed via the appropriate category on our Services page.

City of Rifle Water Quality Improvement Project
SGM implemented an integrated water planning program with a customer focus to help Rifle establish the concept for a new 8-MGD water purification facility. The program included public outreach and interviews, advanced water quality monitoring, taste testing, and treatment process evaluations, including a technical and cost analysis of desalination and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) technologies. SGM’s thorough RO/ZLD analysis secured CDPHE approval for direct return of RO brine to the river.

Town of Silt Water Treatment Plant
SGM planned, designed, and oversaw construction of this new 2.5-MGD surface water treatment plant on the Colorado River. The new plant incorporated one of the first Memcor submerged microfiltration systems in the U.S and gained the Town much-needed capacity. SGM incorporated pre-treatment processes to reduce solids loadings to the filters and help control DBPs.

Red Sky Ranch Water Treatment Plant
SGM combined pre-coagulation, membrane filtration, post-filter GAC adsorption, and polyphosphate feed processes at this 0.3-MGD plant to meet multiple water quality goals. The plant delivers very high quality treated Eagle River water. SGM teamed with University of Colorado researchers to execute a fast-tracked, low-cost, high-value bench-scale testing program.

UERWA Water System Master Plan
SGM evaluated and recommended improvements for possibly the most complex water system in Colorado. SGM utilized state-of-the-art hydraulic modeling capabilities to determine water ages throughout the system to help develop DBP control strategies.

City of Rifle Water Conservation Plan
SGM helped Rifle become the first Western Slope water utility since the passage of Colorado’s 2004 Water Conservation Act to receive state grant funding for, and final approval of, a water conservation plan. Identifying the unique drivers for water conservation on the Western Slope was key to development of a successful plan.

ERWSD In-Line Booster Pump Station Improvements
SGM recommended and designed a complete overhaul to this 2.3-MGD booster pumping facility. Once constructed, the project will boost the effective system-wide water production capacity and greatly improve reliability to meet growing water demands in Vail, CO.

Aspen Glen and Coryell Ranch Water System
SGM oversaw the development of a large new rural domestic water system from concept through construction. The system includes five production wells, two wellhouses, three storage tanks and thousands of feet of water transmission line. The system serves a community planned for more than 700 units.
